Decision to Postpone Parlance Chamber Concerts’s 2020 – 2021 Season

Dear Parlance Family,
It is with sadness that I am writing to announce the postponement of Parlance Chamber Concert’s 2020 – 2021 season. Unfortunately, the recent spike in Covid-19 cases and the increased number of hospitalizations in our area and elsewhere in the country have forced us to reevaluate our plans for the coming season.
As always, the safety and security of our audience members, artists, staff, and volunteers are our highest priority. With this in mind:
- PCC’s board members have come to the unanimous conclusion that it would be too risky to invite our audience members to attend live events at this time, no matter how stringently we devise and enforce social-distancing protocols.
- We feel that the special qualities of intimacy and social interaction that characterize our events could not be effectively sustained under severely restricted, socially-distanced protocols or through live-streamed presentations.
- Also, many of our 2020 – 2021 artists were scheduled to come to Ridgewood from out-of-state and out-of-country locations. Given the current range of travel restrictions and government-mandated periods of quarantine, it seemed inevitable that many of our 2020 – 2021 events would have to be postponed or cancelled in the months ahead.
Therefore, after much deliberation, our board members have unanimously decided that the wisest course of action is to postpone our 14th season until 2021 – 2022. We hope that reliable therapeutics and effective vaccines will be widely available by that time.
Thank you for your understanding and patience. I am deeply grateful for the many warm expressions of support and generous financial commitment we have received since the pandemic lockdown began last March.
Parlance Chamber Concerts remains dedicated to sharing the transformative power of great music, and we look forward to resuming our events as soon as is safely possible.

MEETING MOZART: A Multimedia Encounter with Mozart and His Music

Artistic Director Michael Parloff will illuminate three of Mozart’s most dazzling works for strings. This special multimedia event will connect the biographical facts of Mozart’s life with the musical facts of three magnificent works. Four master musicians will perform the works in their entirety.

Impressions Of Debussy And Ravel
KRISTIN LEE, VIOLIN; NICHOLAS CANELLAKIS, CELLO; MICHAEL BROWN, PIANO
Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel were mutual admirers and rivals who resided on opposite sides of the early 20th-century French musical spectrum. Debussy, the dreamy symbolist, conjured mesmerizing sonic landscapes, while Ravel, the glittering perfectionist, explored kaleidoscopically colorful musical worlds.
These brilliant young musicians will collaborate in four of the most beguiling works of the French chamber repertoire.

Haydn Seeking

THE ESCHER STRING QUARTET
As the most revered composer of his time, Joseph Haydn was admired and emulated by no less than Mozart and Beethoven. Haydn’s celebrated wit, grace, and eloquence will be richly on display in this survey of his seminal chamber works for piano, string quartets, and piano trio.
As a special treat, the multitalented pianist Roman Rabinovich will accompany his own short animated film, “Imaginary Encounters with Haydn.”

Beloved Beethoven
THE ZUKERMAN TRIO
The star-studded ensemble will perform three of Beethoven’s most beloved chamber masterworks: the “Spring” violin sonata, the A-major cello sonata, and the “Archduke Trio.”

One of today’s fastest rising ensembles, the Schumann String Quartet has been hailed worldwide for their fire, energy, and supreme technical accomplishment. Their adventurously diverse Parlance debut will include Mozart’s rollicking “Hunt” quartet, the legendary film composer Bernard Herrmann’s spellbinding “Echoes for String Quartet,” and Edvard Grieg’s lyrical, folk-inspired String Quartet in G minor.

The celebrated pianist Marc-André Hamelin is renowned for his jaw-dropping technique, inventive programming and compelling artistry. His eclectic recital will include works by Beethoven, Mozart, CPE Bach, and Fauré, culminating with Ravel’s hallucinatory Gaspard de la Nuit, which the composer described as “three romantic poems of transcendental virtuosity.”
SUNDAY, JUNE 6, 2O21 AT 3 PM
SEASONAL GRAND FINALE
FEATURING VIVALDI’S FOUR SEASONS
Fifteen outstanding musicians will join forces for PCC’s seasonal Grand Finale. Framed by Vivaldi violin concertos, the program will begin with four prodigiously talented teenaged violinists in Vivaldi’s Concerto in B minor for Four Violins and end with four seasoned soloists in Vivaldi’s ever-popular Four Seasons. The festive afternoon will also include Boccherini’s virtuosic Cello Sonata in A and an all-star performance of Bach’s 6th Brandenburg Concerto.
