JONATHAN BISS, PIANO
MOZART, JANÁČEK, AND SCHUMANN
“Biss is known for his deeply insightful approach to the pillars of the repertoire and a desire to forge connections between that canon and the present…” — The Boston Globe, January 2024
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
Pianist Jonathan Biss is internationally acclaimed for his impeccable taste, formidable technique, and profound musical insight. He has performed as a soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras and, since 2018, has served as Co-Artistic Director of the Marlboro Music School and Festival alongside Mitsuko Uchida.
In his thoughtfully curated program, Jonathan Biss charts an expressive journey through three centuries of piano masterpieces — from Mozart’s stormy Sonata in C minor, K. 457, to Janáček’s early 20th-century nostalgia in On an Overgrown Path, and the sweeping Romantic passion of Schumann’s Fantasy in C, envisioned as a coded love letter to his beloved wife-to-be, Clara Wieck.
